Study Visit on Social Services in West Africa

A total of 12 staff from ISS-HK went on a “Study Visit on Social Services in West Africa” (Senegal and Burkina Faso) from 16 to 24 November 2017. Comprised of social workers and programme staff from various service units of ISS-HK, the team visited ISS West Africa upon their arrival in Senegal, and also communicated and shared experiences with other NGOs that attend to children in need, including street children and child victims of abuse and sexual abuse.

In Burkina Faso, the delegates met with representatives of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and the Status of Women and the Nigerian Embassy to better understand the social needs in the area and how they were dealt with by the government. The ISS-HK team also shared the Agency’s work and experiences on Cross-Boundary and Inter-country Casework Service, Integrated Family Service Centre, Foster Care, Adoption and the Provision of Assistance for Non-refoulement Claimants with the local NGOs including “African Movement of Working Children”.

All staff members found the visit a fruitful one and appreciated the rare opportunity to visit West Africa to understand about the social welfare system and social services provision there.
