Ripples Action Conferred Certificate of Commendation

[21 February 2017] The Women's Commission (WoC) of the HKSAR Government organized a conference titled “Unleashing Women’s Potential for All-Round Development” today (21 February) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. At the Conference, Ripples Action was conferred a Certificate of Commendation by the Award Scheme in Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment to recognise the project’s contributions to the economic empowerment of women.

The Award Scheme in Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment is assessed by a panel comprising WoC Members and representative of the Labour and Welfare Bureau, based on the following assessing criteria: having a positive impact on realising the target participants’ economic potential and conducive to empowering them economically; having a sustainable impact on the target participants and/or the community; whether it effectively enhances public’s awareness and recognition of women’s roles in economic development; and innovation in its concept, design and / or implementation.

Initiated by a group of female members of the community and organisations who have a passion for community affairs, including accountants, doctors, lawyers, nurses and social workers, Ripples Action is a campaign which aims to set off a far-reaching ripple effect where communities start getting involved and connecting with each other through acts of giving. Since March 2008, Ripples Action has reached out to the broader community through a series of activities.

The WoC was established by the Government in January 2001 as a high-level central mechanism to advise the Government on policies and initiatives which are of concern to women. It is tasked to take a strategic overview over women's issues, develop a long-term vision and strategy for the development and advancement of women.
